Tomayia Colvin is one of the creative leaders in our field who is truly open to her community and really embodies the authenticity and rawness of what her life truly is like at any given time. It wasn’t always this way, though.
In this episode, we talk about the challenge of showing up authentically as a leader and the impossible standards created by social media to show only the carefully curated version of our lives. Tomayia shares how her divorce helped her drop this mask and start showing up as she truly is.
We also explore how she’s learned to be honest and transparent about her own capacity and limitations and how a recent health scare helped her shift her mentality and priorities about what is truly important.

When Woo-Woo and Business Collide: Trauma, Healing & Learning to Trust Yourself
Wednesday Feb 22, 2023
Wednesday Feb 22, 2023
Holistic approaches to healing can have big ripple effects on your business and your life. In this episode, I talk with creative business and sales strategist Kerry Walsh about the place where “woo-woo” meets business through listening to ourselves and our bodies. Kerry shares her journey in battling cancer as a youth and the way it affected how she approached business ownership, and the surprising ways holistic approaches affect our bottom lines. She specifically talks about the ways our nervous system regulation {or lack of} impacts our productivity, capacity, and our ability for growth.
I share a lot about my own journey and the quote “mid-life breakdown” I had when I ended my marriage and the surprising modalities like reiki and EMDR that brought both me and my business back to life.

People Over Profit

Many businesses tout people over profit but few actually live it the way Seattle-based content creator and photographer Jon Taylor Sweet does. Now, that's not to say that he hasn’t had tremendous success financially. If all you did was stalk him on social media, you’d see his hundreds of thousands of followers and the amazing content he’s been paid to do for brands and couples worldwide. But for him, success isn’t measured by fiscal numbers.
We talk about how his faith taught him to serve, how it inspired him to bring the model of giving into business, and how it continues to build his business today. Jon shared how this way of living formed his views of success and how you too can transition out of simply working to make more money and instead work to serve the people around you.

Living a Beautiful Life After a Cancer Diagnosis
Wednesday Feb 08, 2023
Wednesday Feb 08, 2023
Are there parts of your life that you hide in the “name of your brand”? It happens so often when we try to show up online as the polished, finished versions of ourselves instead of the raw, real humans that we actually are.
Angie McPherson is a branding photographer and marketing strategist out of Virgina, and today we are having a super interesting conversation about how we minimize areas of our life, like motherhood and, in her case, a cancer diagnosis, to keep up appearances in our business. We talk about how going through cancer at a young age changed the way she decided to show up for others, how she used her story to inspire those around her, and how hitting a wall in our lives changes our priorities. She shares some amazing tips on eliminating the word balance from our vocabulary and focusing more on things like being well-rounded, focusing on what's important, and living our life to the fullest NOW while we have a life to live.

Kaleigh Wiese is an Austin, Texas-based endless creator, visual branding educator, entrepreneur, and public speaker. She is one of those people I could talk to for hours and never run out of things to say, and our conversation on the podcast is no exception.
Kaleigh has one of the most unique upbringings of anyone I know because she was homeschooled and went to college at 15… yes, 15! She always knew that entrepreneurship was her calling and she has worked her entire career helping creatives find their visual voice.
Today she opens up about where she is in business and some of the growing pains she is experiencing as she works to scale to the next level. We also discuss how the pandemic gave her a new sense of freedom in identifying what fulfills her and how to protect her energy while still pouring into and serving others, and how she has come to redefine success on her own terms.

The Road to Authenticity
Wednesday Jan 25, 2023
Wednesday Jan 25, 2023
Welcome to the first official episode of Raw with the Landlocked Mermaid! Let me tell you a little bit about how this came to be... 5 years ago, I was working in Thailand when I had an unplanned major life pivotal moment {generally how they go}. I was feeling unfulfilled, lost, confused... Yet I continued to post on social media and show up online like everything was perfect. It looked like I was "living the dream"... but it certainly didn't feel like it. Do you know the feeling?
This experience sparked a major realization of how I was showing up in the world, and as a result, RAW was born - the extension of my personal quest to uncover the honest sides of entrepreneurship through unfiltered conversations with the visionaries and leaders we all know and love.
